Made with Love: Honey Baby Skincare Beginnings

Honey Baby Naturals is all about hydrating, and protecting not just the hair, but the skin as well. Honey Baby Naturals’ founder and CEO Aisha Ceballos-Crump gave us the inside scoop of how the skincare line came about and what the future has in store.

Why did you decide to do skincare?

“We typically think of hair care first, but it is important to take care of your skin as well,” Aisha explains. “I was actually inspired to do it because my youngest daughter, who is also a swimmer, has really bad eczema. A lot of the stuff on the market for eczema has a lot of ingredients that are not really good for her skin, so I wanted to create a natural remedy for her eczema.”

Which skincare product did you come up with first?

“The body jelly. Yeah that one like I said was really about my daughter and her skin concerns having eczema” Aisha explains. “She’s a swimmer so she goes into the pool a lot [and] I wanted a product that would be healing and protecting her skin from getting more irritated.”

Who was your target audience?

“Well it was family,” Aisha says. “We all have dry skin. We all have skin concerns. It’s good for moms, dads, kids, grandmas and I mean I can think of so many different users. It’s really about family care.”

What do you look for in skincare products?

“Ingredients are important: no harsh chemicals and ingredients, easy to apply, soothing,” Aisha says. “You don’t want the fragrance to be too loud where it overpowers your perfume or things that you’re wearing, so you want a mild fragrance and mild ingredients hydrating the skin and also healing the skin.”

Do you see more skincare products in Honey Baby Naturals' future?

“Yeah absolutely. I know our customers have been asking us but we definitely want to do a body wash - a hydrating moisturizing body wash,” Aisha says. “I’m looking into a scrub to exfoliate the skin and a few other products definitely, so in 2019 we’ll probably launch a few products on our e-commerce platforms by collection and then [add] the travel size for the body jelly everyone asks about all the time.”
